Food lovers are going to get a double dose of Shiela’s Canteen during the 2022 49er, 49erFX and Nacra 17 World Sailing Championships.
But Shiela won't be the only food merchant attending, but exactly which trucks will be there is still up in the air as the 2022 49er, 49erFX and Nacra 17 World Sailing Championships Host Society has confirmed they are working on the details with the Food Truck Association of Nova Scotia (FTANS) at this time.
One thing is for sure. Locals will and merchants will be out in full force selling their wares. Sheila of Sheila’s Canteen said her trucks will be “centrally located to the activities” and said that she expects people will be coming “from far and wide” to take part in the sailing competition both as competitors and fans.
Some business models predict the 2022 49er, 49erFX and Nacra 17 World Sailing Championships could bring an estimated 4.4 million dollars to the local economy, an injection that is warmly welcomed by local business owners and residents alike.
Nova Scotia will host approximately 200 Sailing Teams, including 400 of the world's best sailors, from over 50 countries. The world class event will be held August 31-September 5, 2022 on St. Margaret’s Bay. St. Margaret’s Bay, named after historic explorer Samuel de Champlain’s mother, is a small inlet of the Atlantic Ocean on the southeast coast of Nova Scotia just 40 kilometres west of Nova Scotia’s capital city of Halifax.
As locals well know, St. Margaret’s Bay is also noted for relatively warm water, sandy beaches and ideal sailing conditions for small craft. The region also has a formidable sized tourist trade. Peggy's Cove, a tiny fishing village on the eastern side of the bay, is said to be the most photographed spot in the province.
